Scleroderma Information » Morphea » Something Positive To Share from Audrey

Question:

Hi Ilena, Just wanted to share a positive experience I had with doctors and a hospital in Pittsbugh, PA. Yesterday, I had a mammogram and ultrasound at Magee Hospital in Pittsburgh, PA. For the FIRST time in years and years and years, and without me bringing the silicone issue to their attention, I was spoken to with care and respect –   by two female doctors in the ultrasound testing room about free floating silicone. Also, today my attending doctor’s office called me at home to assure me there was no free floating silicone in the residual breast tissue and that the lumps they see, in what were my breasts, are non-malignant (probably scar tissue from explantation and the numerous surgeries I’ve experienced in the past.) Yesterday and today, I actually the word – I heard doctor’s voices saying "silicone" without being pressured to speak about it – I felt like a woman who became a human being again.  KUDOS to the Women’s Health Care at Magee Hospital, Pittsburgh, PA.  This is the positive aspect of my experience – - – NOW I want to put it out there to all my silicone sisters as to what you do when you have no breasts left and the doctors find new lumps – do I trust it is only scar tissue – do I have the lumps removed for safety sake?   I have been diagnosed with scleraderma / morphea / mixed connective tissue disease and at some level just being to feel almost okay – will another surgery set me back health wise?  It is all so frustrating – would like to hear some of the ladies thoughts on the subject. Thanks,  Audrey

Good for you Audrey. Glad to hear your studies came out well and that you had such a positive experience. Do you think there is a possibility we could clone these physicians and spread them around the country for the rest of us? I have addressed the other issue in a separate email.. Cathie
