If you see a Rheumatologist he will be able to tell you if your problem is scleroderma. You are right many Drs. never think that this could be the problem that is why it takes us so long to get diagnosed. Gigi

I have found since I have had questions about possibly having this condition, after many strange symptoms this past year and the information I have searched for and received from the web searching to find a reason why my skin begin to tighten and cold hands and feet etc.. I have went to different doctors not wanting to suggest a diagnosis, (doctors seem to frown on this). No one has even suggested testing me for this. Thyroid has been tested. It is fine. I finally suggested it to one doctor and he said he did not know what I was talking about. I feel I give to much information or not enough. Still having strange skin condition and symptoms. I am not a hypochondriac or nuts. I am a thirty-five year old, middle class housewife with three little girls. thanks just had to vent frustration. Rhonda

My rheumatologist was hesitant to diagnose SD, even though by the time I saw her I had slight contracture in my fingers, Raynaud’s, joint pain, reflux, shiny skin, etc… I still test normal for all the blood tests. I went to a dermatologist (my health plan didn’t require a referral!) and had a skin biopsy on a finger and had those results sent to my rheumy. She was then able to diagnose it and start treatment. This rheumy had at least 7 other SD patients at the time. I think it’s still tough with some even when the doc is educated and experienced with it. GRamos3414 wrote in message
