Hey – Saw this on Yahoo’s UK and Ireland News site, and I was wondering for those on the antibiotic protocol; is taking minocycline in this, or does that work differently, and how?: Thursday April 23, 2:57 PM GMT Health Danger From Too Many Antibiotics Doctors are expected to be strongly advised not to over-prescribe antibiotics and so endanger public health. A major Government review body, including experts from the Public Health Laboratory Service, will report shortly, said Chief Medical Officer Sir Kenneth Calman. He expected its findings to be in line with those of a Lords committee which has warned that over-use of antibiotics was producing a new generation of drug-resistant bugs. Sir Kenneth said: "I think it will be a series of very strong recommendations to GPs and hospital doctors about the proper use of antibiotics." Speaking on BBC Radio 4’s Today Programme, Sir Kenneth stressed that people must understand they should not expect an antibiotic every time they saw the doctor with a cough or cold. The drugs were, in any case, ineffective for treating viruses which cause colds and flu. Sir Kenneth also highlighted the link between the use of antibiotic growth promoters in animals and later resistance to the drugs in humans, saying this was now "a very clear pathway". The Lords science and technology committee concluded in a wide-ranging report that diseases such as TB, meningitis, and the hospital infection MRSA are becoming increasingly resistant to common antibiotics. It was feared that common infections now treated easily with antibiotics could become a serious threat to health. The committee recommended urgent action to stop the clock turning back to a time when there was little or no protection against infectious diseases. Health Secretary Frank Dobson called the report "valuable, constructive and timely". He said the Government would study the recommendations closely and issue a response in due course. — Amie ——– Kate Nance’s "I Have Scleroderma" website has been updated and moved to http://members.tripod.com/~ayaussy Please visit us!

Overuse of antibiotics is a big concern for Drs. as there are no drugs on ht e immediate horizon(in the form of antibiotics).  Also overuse of antibiotics does make them resistant to bacteria.  Also, when a patient must take a long term antibiotic, it is not uncommon to see a new resistant bacteria over growth in the patient.  This is seen often in the hospitals.  Hope I explained that o’k.  This is not to say……don’t take your antibiotics…….If your Dr. perscribed…..take them.  I also believe that their is concern of young Mothers thinking when their babies get sick….get an antibiotic.  That used to be the thoughts years ago.  Now it is known that a fever for a short period is a body defense system.

Hi Guys,    NO this does not apply to treatment of antibiotics for RA. The reason it does not is because the dosage is less. The dose is an anti-inflamatory dose. As it was told to me by my rhemmy’s. This strickly applies to overuse in the treatment of common  infections. I am on antibiotic therapy  and have developed  minor infections and have had to take addtional antibiotics. Hope this answers your question. Regards,         Soc…@aol.com
