Question:

Maybe we SD moms can dress our kids up as Arctic Explorers for Halloween. . . then complete the "theme" by dressing up in parkas, three layers of clothes, and ultra-insulated Pac Boots. "But, mummy, I was Martin Frobisher LAST YEAR" "Too bad, kid.   Lace up your Sorrels and follow me . . ."

Not only is it a warmer environment, but also a safer one. Wendy

My suggestion to my husband was to go trick or treating in Key West!! (he didn’t go for it).  Oh, well…guess we’ll survive in Cleveland! Tracy "if you’re on thin ice you may as well dance…"

Dear Sherry, Fortunately my SD came on after my kids were in their teens.  My SD  has also been mild it must be an awful heart break for SD moms to at times have to say no to so many   things that we took forgranted before our illness.  As you mentioned there are many   events  to replace going door to door but how do the children actually feel?  The one thing I had a little problem with were college sporting events but I managed with tons of ski wear and very often getting lucky enough to have a parking spot with a good view.  Even as our children reach their twenties they still need  to be represented by us at many events. It is a very difficult situation to deal with.  I had suffered alot of guilt everytime I had to skip an event even though my family reassured me they understood.  My best to everyone with this problem. Tamara

Or the Bahamas better yet. LOL. We told Karl Kastorf at the conference this year that we wanted to have one in Hawaii one year. LOL. It would be fun but it wouldn’t be practical to have a foundation conference there. For one it would limit those that could attend and then they would have to figure cost in as a factor. They try to find areas that will accomodate a group rate so the costs can be kept at a minimum for the patients wishing to attend. Plus we also like to have it in an area where there are other city sites. Some people use the conference as their vacation. They go for the conference and then make a holiday out of it. But hey it was a nice thought wasn’t it? — Love and Hugs From Sherry Messick Surviving Scleroderma http://www.SclerodermaSupport.com "Get Up, Stand Up and Fight to survive because Scleroderma Kicks you when you are down" "We are all Beacons Of Light for Each Other " Oprah Winfrey Tomorrow is promised to no one. Oh so true. Boy times have changed since I was a child. A group of us kids always went alone. We had older ones go to watch the younger ones. No one ever thought about anything happening other than us being mischievous :-) Nowadays you have to worry to let your children walk to the corner alone. That is a sad fact. I finally got all my kids old enough they go out by themselves (within limits) and then my oldest goes and have a kid so now I get to take the granddaugter.  If I can’t sucker the hubby into it then I drive the car and make on the older kids walk around with her.  It gets so cold here that I can’t even hand out candy cause the door stays open.  We used to go to the mall but it got so large it took 3 hours to walk through, and my legs and back DID  NOT like that.  We live in a small enough town that we can still go around our block and the blocks adjacent to us and feel safe. Having a full fledge blizzard here is not abnormal, one year they postponed Halloween till the next night because it was storming so much.
