Question:

That is the only word to describe GERD- I have a question – has anyone had the new surgery for GERD?  how many prilosec do you use for reflux to stop? are there any replacements for the medicine that was taken off the market because of heart problems- I used to take a combo of prilosec and the ther( I forgot the name)  and the prilosec or prevacid one a day isn’t working?  I can’t get rid of this bitter taste in my mouth? is anything else working for folks?  carolyn

No I haven’t. > how many prilosec do you use for reflux to stop?

Well about 5 years ago taking two pills of Prilosec a day curbed the symptoms very well. Now I take 4 and sometimes 5, 30mg pills of Prevacid a day and still get reflux at times. I try to restrict myself from eating or drinking things that trigger reflux and have the head of my bed raised about 5 inches. >are there any replacements for the medicine that was taken off the market >because of heart problems

I am assuming the medication you are referring to that was removed from the market is Propulsid (Cissapride). Many people switched to Reglan with good results. Unfortunately I am allergic to reglan. There is my two cents. Not me. I’m too chicken to even get scoped! > how many prilosec do you use for reflux to stop?

I control acid with 2 a day, but there’s always stuff at the back of my throat.  Wierd feeling. > are there any replacements for the medicine that was taken off the market > because of heart problems- I used to take a combo of prilosec and the > ther( I forgot the name)  and the prilosec or prevacid one a day isn’t > working?  I can’t get rid of this bitter taste in my mouth? is anything else > working for folks?  carolyn

Have your doc send you to a gastroenterologist familiar with scleroderma to get this under control.  It’s not just discomfort – that acid does damage!
