Question:
Heya Doris! I’m doing pretty well….can’t complain (not true….we all know I can!!!
) How’s life with you?? Miss yapping at ya! To everyone: The Doc put me on Prevacid for reflux (GERD) (Like they could think of a nicer name for this????) But it doesn’t seem to phase it…..He said that Propulcid was the same thing and I forgot to ask about Prilosec. What works for the rest of you? TIA…….. ~ Jacquie ~ I’m experiencing amnesia and deja vu at the same time, I think I’ve forgotten this before…

Prilosec is precious to me! It relieves the awful reflux discomfort, and if I miss a dose, I can feel the difference. I stopped Propulsid, upon my cardiologist’s recommendation (I have heart involvement), and I don’t see any difference there. -Ronni- *********************************** Building Awareness for Scleroderma Is Crucial to Finding a Cure Scleroderma Foundation (1/800-722-HOPE)

This thread illustrates how medicines which are considered "equivalent" by HMOs can have very different results on an individual basis. Another example is H2 blockers such as Pepcid, Axid, Tagamet, etc. I had completely different side effects and effectiveness with the 4 major H2 blockers. My HMO tried to standardize everyone on Axid and my physiician had to intervene to keep me on Pepcid at that time. Bottom line, if Prevacid doesn’t work, try Prilosec and vice versa since everyone reacts differently. Prilosec works really well for me along with watching what I eat, drinking lots of water, and NO caffeine. – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text -Ota2 wrote in message <19990311191046.26010.00001…@ng-fd1.aol.com>… > The Doc put me on Prevacid for reflux (GERD) (Like they could think of a >nicer name for this????) Hi, gang… I started on Prilosec (I don’t remember the strength) and it worked great, along with watching my diet. (I wasn’t too good about the caffeine, though). My presctiption plan changed, and I had to change to Prevacid. Even after doubling the dose to 30mg, I don’t think it works as well. I’m getting more breakthrough reflux at night. The good thing is I’m getting a lot more calcium since I now take more Tums at night. Stay warm!! Tracy "if you’re on thin ice you may as well dance…"

I have been on Prilosec for a couple of years and it works great as long as I am careful, don’t eat too much, avoid spice etc….. Dilation is really helps too. Glad it worked so well for you, Bob. Ed, I sense there must be a slight difference because I have had numerous people tell me that one worked better for them then the other. I was also told when I began Prilosec that if it didn’t do anything then we would try Prevacid so my physician must have also seen people react differently to the two medications. I underwent a dilation in December and the doctor put me on Prevacid 30 mg. It worked fine, but he reduced it to 15 mg to determine what minimum dosage I could take, and I had a few problems. I called him and he told me to go back to the 30. Since the caps were 15, my druggist told me to take the two at once to make my dosage 30 until I refill next. The dilation worked wonders! Good point Ed, Back when I was on H2’s None of them helped for the longest time then finally tried Zantac and it did help a lot for a good many years then it didn’t do anything and then I began on Prilosec. When I first started on Prilosec I thought it was a miracle drug. For nearly a year it kept me nearly symptom free. I wish it had stayed that effective for me LOL. Don’t get me wrong without it I wouldn’t be able to stand it but I do still get reflux even on an extremely high dosage daily. I’ve used both. I found Prevacid to be a bit more effective for me but I suspect this is an individual difference since the two meds do the same thing. However, the dosages are slightly different so it can be hard to compare them directly. What dosage of Prevacid are you on? You may be able to increase the dosage to get better results.
