Doe’s anyone use any kind of herbs or holistic approaches? I know all the warnings about not using anything that speeds up the immune system. I am just curious if anyone is trying those that are safe and if so what are you finding? Smiles

Hey Michael, When using a food supplement such as an herb or some of the new hormonal ones, it is always a given to tell your Doctor and Pharmasist which ones you use and how much you take because they can ineract with prescription medications. Normally, your doctor will tell you to talk to you Pharmasist and they will tell you if it is safe to combine or not. you are right about alot of the meds being derived from herbs. The herbs were mans first medicines. Now we have synthetics and genetically altered plant derivetives. We also have to be careful of food interaction with medications as well. It is up to each individual person to research and educate themselves on anything we put into our bodies. I was told that echincea is not wise for people who have collagen related diseases or other auto-immune diseases. I do use feverfew for my migranes and valirum root and melatonin to help with insommnia. I also use DHEA and am currently off my CoQ10 for a few weeks, plus a good quality multivitamin. I choose not use anything but my multivitamin on a daily basis. Livers are very sensitive things and need a rest once in awhile, not to mention the kidneys. One thing that I did find most useful for mild pain was willow. When using any herbal supplement, make sure you know the brand you are buying. Some brands are not as good of quality. Now, is there an herbal cure all? No. More controlled clinical studies need to be done on herbal and other alternative forms of medication and treatments. The key words are controlled and clinical. But the monies for funding such studies are far and few. The NHO just gave a multimillion dollar grant last month for further studies to be done on chelation therapy. A controlled clinical study finally. Take care and you can e-mail me if you want more info on chealtion therapy. I am not promoting it or endorsing, it is one area of alternative therapy I have been researching for a very long time.
