Question:

Well we have all been waiting for winter, well we up in the North will get ours tonight and tomorrow.  They are predicting 8-10 inches of snow with 70mph winds.  Guess who is curling up inside.  One nice thing is the kids are off from school tomorrow and Wednesday and the Hubby is off Wednesday, so at least my snow will get shoveled.  As long as we don’t repeat the winter of 1996-97 we will be happy.  Where we hit 119+ inches (we do not have lake effect snows).  Welcome to all the newcomers of the support group, as Sherry said we might not know all the answers but if we don’t we will do our best to find them out. Jan

Response:

Terri, I live in Fargo.  Yes the tourist trade is really down thanks to the economy.  It really hurt Grand Forks more than Fargo because they are still recovering from the Flood.  And Fargo did not really see all that much Canadian visitors. Have fun in Vegas, don’t lose too much Jan

As a child growing up in central NY (snow belt), we would search for the wooliest caterpiller , with stripes  and that would tell us how much snow to expect.  and 5 children with shovels made paths in the acre wakj ways.  We also had a big old driveway(circlular) and we had a follow who plowed it and we got to take turns rididing  on the pow, And who can for forget makijg angles in tyhe snow.?   Those were thr good ‘ol days, Wendy

The storm is less than they thought.  We are having very strong winds that is blowing around what we got but there is only about 3 inches on the ground now. What helped is that we stayed above freezing for most of the storm.  I had to cancel my PT appt today because of the weather.  It really doesn’t matter because I don’t see it doing any good.  It feels like everything is worse again.  I would love to go on your cruise but with my luck a hurricane would hit. Jan – what part of ND are you in? We visit your state often as it is directly south of Manitoba. Over the years I have a contributed a lot to your state’s economy through sales tax, hotel rooms, etc. I understand that the Canadian shoppers have decreased considerably over the past few months since the rapid decline of the Canadian dollar – which is now worth about 50 cents, US. We are going to a group gathering of friends in Las Vegas, the first weekend in December. I had to send a money order to cover some of the activities. I got a money order for $190 US and it cost me $297 Canadian. That hurt. I have already told my hubby that he can only play the nickel slots – and very little with these exorbitant exchange rates. At least our air fare will be paid in Canadian dollars. Terri "Growing old is inevitable, growing up is optional"

Oh Jan you will be in my thoughts tonight as the snow begins to fall. Just stay inside and keep them toesies and fingers warm. I’ll be sending you warm vibes to help keep you toasty. They are predicting this to be a rough winter for many of us. I hope they are wrong. My raynauds seems to be worse this year then in winters past. Let us know Jan how you all fair in the snow fall. — *** Love, Hugs and well wishes From *** Sherry Messick, Visit My Site!
