I hate to go on this news group and say that I have found a cure for my scleroderma. I was very sick and did not need anyone getting my hopes needlessly up. I am therefore sensitive to this and I don’t want to get anyones hopes up and would not post this if I didn’t feel it was worth while. This new group helped me very much over the last 6 months. I was at my wits end and even thinking of funeral arrangements. I was tired, sick and almost without hope. It seemed everywhere I turned a doctor was telling me that a good share of my problem was stress and in my head. Thanks to people like Sherry Messick and others they conviced me that I was not alone and I thank them for that. I had most of the symtoms of scleroderma as well as severe hives and other auto imune type disorders. For GERD, I was taking 600 mg per day of Zantac, for other symtoms, Prednisone when I could stand it. I slowly deteriorated for the last 15 years and spent thousands of dollars on doctors. Six weeks ago, I attended a family reunion where my brother-in-law of all people suggested I get a book called Eat Right 4 Your Type by Dr. Peter D’Adamo. I read the book and it made sense and I decided to give the diet suggested for me a try. Within a week I had significant improvement in my condition. Within two weeks, most of my symptoms were gone and I was no longer on Zantac and I felt twenty years younger. Over the last six weeks my skin has gotten soft again and my skin problems are going away. I no longer hurt all the time and I am free to partake in activities that I long ago had to give up. I have to pinch myself to believe that this is true. I hesitated to put this on the news group for fear that it was all a dream and I might be getting peoples hopes up needlessly. There is a web page for this diet as well as a message board. If this helps even one of you then I feel justified in airing this on the news group. Bye for now and thanks a bunch. Anyone can e-mail me if they would like. Kurt Reno

Hi there. First let me say thank you for your kind words to me and also express how happy I am that you are doing so well. Unfortunately, there is no proven "Cure" for scleroderma. This disease tends to have active times and then alternating plateaus. Therefore it is hard to say if your recent appearance of remission is actually associated with the diet itself. There are several possibilities. 1. Perhaps the diet does work. 2. Perhaps you are just going through a quiet period and it is just a coincidence that it began when you started this plan. 3. Perhaps your disease has burned itself out similarly like you hear some people claim that their progression halted with no explanation. 4. There is data that points toward the possibility of a placebo effect. Meaning you begin a new treatment and you suddenly improve. Mind over matter type of thing. Keep in mind that being on it for 6 weeks is relatively a very short time to be on a regime and to attribute your improved health for certain to this program. If you stopped it today you may continue to improve. Again who knows you may not. Basically what I am saying is that these type of alternative approaches must really (in my opinion) be tested, studied in a controlled scientific fashion before we can project them as "cures" or options for everyone. What may have helped you may do nothing for me and vice versa. Good nutrition is of course of value to all of us. The most important thing for you though is that right now you believe in this treatment and that your health is improving. I am so happy for you in this regard. My greatest advice to you though is to be very cautious about ending or making changes in your medical treatment right now. The diet may appear to be helping but it could be dangerous if you stopped treatment based on this appearance. Please bring all this to your physicians attention. Bring your doctor into this equation to be certain you are not eating or consuming something that could be harmful to you or interact with a medication you are on. Hopefully more studies on these types of approaches will be done soon. I do wish you a continued improvement of health. — Sherry Messick surviv…@sclerodermasupport.com ************************************************************* Surviving Scleroderma http://sclerodermasupport.com Scleroderma & Autoimmune Message Board Forums Visit: http://SclerodermaSupport.com/discussion Subscribe to the SD & Autoimmune Digest at http://SclerodermaSupport.com/digest.htm Scleroderma Foundation Greater Washington DC Serving: MD, VA and DC http://sclerodermagw.org ************************************************************* Join Us Online "Together We Can Beat The Odds" Pierre Reno <kr…@neo.rr.com> wrote in message

Kurt, Thank you so much for sharing your experience with us. I am so happy for you that you found something that has given both relief and hopeand renewed your faith in life/living again and taken your mind off funeral arrangments. Diet plays a vey important part for all of us with and without chronic illnesses. The old cliche you are what you eat holds a lot of truth behind it. Hopefully someone else with sd or another illness will have the fortitude to try it out and share their experience. I havent read the book. Please continue to post here to keep us updated. It is true what works for one may not work for another but the one it seems to have helped let us be supportive and continue with positive thoughts of further improvement for them. Though we all know there isnt a tried and true cure for sd, what we dont know is what will trigger a remission and maybe Kurts diet triggered his. We all want the same thing…..not to have sd at all or any of its cousins. So lets keep an open mind and open heart. "One man’s meat is another man’s poison." I tried the "Eat right for your Blood type diet." I tried it because a friend of mine who has SD was trying it and she swore it would help me. I am glad it worked for you, however it didn’t do a thing for me. Maybe I didn’t believe in it strongly enough. ……..Gigi

I’ll try to be philosophical and maybe fall flat on my face. Is there a cure for anything? A true and absolute ‘cure’ would afford us eternal life on Earth, where each and every of life’s ills and maladies would become extinct. Since this is not to be, then each of us on Earth have to resort to ‘relief’ to get us over any of life’s hurdles. Be it the relief is long term or short term, we simply have to make the best of it and be thankful for what we have. To find a relief is good, but it’s only as good and strong as the hope we hold. To lose hope or to not have it at all, will mean an agonizing defeat. We’re of a better fabric than that! We all know those two things inevitable in life – taxes and death. They became part of our existence from Day ONE. I don’t want to base my life on those two things though, because there’s more than that out there. I want to be happy and live life to its fullest. Whatever relief is available, I’ll accept it and make the best of it. I will do it because I WANT to do it! Bob – alle…@tiac.net ICQ 6418621
