Question:

I worked in print shops and newspapers since 1968. I quit Dec. ‘99, diagnosed Limited Sclero Feb. 2001, and was granted SS Disability June 2001, 2 months after I applied. No denials/appeals. SS asked me if I considered Workers’ Comp, I said "no, not really". It didn’t seem to hinder the SSDI. – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text -Roger wrote: > My wife was diagnosed with scleroderma a year and half ago.  She was > doing research at a medical college.  Our doctor advised her to stop > working because the chemicals she was working with are known to > aggravate the condition, though there is no proof they caused it.  She > stopped working, but the condition has deteriorated and we are facing > tremondous financial and emotional strain.  Some friends have > suggested that we should sue her employer.  We are reluctant to do so > because we are not convinced we would have much success.  It would > also put more emotional strain on us.  I recently read on a web page > that chemical exposure is believed to trigger some of the scleroderma. > I would like to know if anyone has been in similar situation and have > tried to sue their employer, and what their experience has been. > Roger

Response:

My wife was diagnosed with scleroderma a year and half ago.  She was doing research at a medical college.  Our doctor advised her to stop working because the chemicals she was working with are known to aggravate the condition, though there is no proof they caused it.  She stopped working, but the condition has deteriorated and we are facing tremondous financial and emotional strain.  Some friends have suggested that we should sue her employer.  We are reluctant to do so because we are not convinced we would have much success.  It would also put more emotional strain on us.  I recently read on a web page that chemical exposure is believed to trigger some of the scleroderma. I would like to know if anyone has been in similar situation and have tried to sue their employer, and what their experience has been. Roger
