Hey! Thank you all for the messages. I also don’t know how much time I spend at the dentist, but so far I lost only one tooth which had been septic. At the moment my scleroderma seems to improve without medication. The main symptoms I’m suffering from are Raynaud and Calcinosis and of course the dental problems. The skin discolouring which led to the diagnosis almost disapeared and the acid stomach also seems better. Is there anybody who had also experience of a "stop" in the disease? Good luck for you, Doris! Christine

Response:

Hi Christine : It is Gigi again, I have been in remission for 5 years. I went into remission using Imuran and stayed well without any symptoms for 5 years but unfortunately things must have been working behind the scenes.  I developed lung disease and also pulmonary hypertension and my reflux led to Barrettes.  I am not trying to scare you, none of this may happen to you. this is a very individualized disease. Take care and Good luck…..Gigi

I have teeth problems too. I’m not sure if it’s because of CREST or because of the instance where I was in the hospital for an infected finger that had to be removed. They pinned that down to Raynaud’s. At that time, the doctors discovered that I had a severe staph infection and administered antibiotics by I.V. Many people who have been on antibiotics in the same quantity as me, say that the condition of their teeth has worsened. Bob – alle…@tiac.net ICQ 6418621

Thanks to all for the kinds words about the "Today Show."  The worst obstacle we faced wasn’t the rain or cold but a few people who didn’t want to promote the idea because they figured nobody would participate.  But thanks to those with a "can do" spirit, we had 22 people show up!  Robert Riggs of the national Scleroderma Foundation was very supportive, making us the banner and t-shirts, and sending a supply of fact sheets to distribute.   We didn’t accomplish all we wanted (getting to talk to the hosts on the air), but the camera did focus on our banner.  Those already familiar with the "name" scleroderma got to see (if they didn’t blink!) that there’s a group known as the Scleroderma Foundation.  We also spoke with many people on-site, including Yankee Manager Joe Torre and Michael Milken, known as the former "junk bond king."  They asked if they could "hold onto" the literature ("Sure, sure, you can!!"). It appeared that Al Roker didn’t notice we were there until toward the end of the show, when he gestured he’d come over to us.  (We had written him a letter the week before to let him know we’d be there.)  But then, unfortunately, there weren’t any more outdoor segments.   I’m convinced we will make it on the air next time around.  And soon "Good Morning America" is going to open its floor-level studio too, with visits outdoors to the crowds.  Better yet, the Public Relations Committee of the Scleroderma Foundation is talking with some publicity specialists whose job it will be to get "scleroderma" on the air, INSIDE TV studios.  We’ll keep you all posted!               Ronni ~Scleroderma Awareness Is          Key to a Cure~ SCLERODERMA FOUNDATION      Call 1-800-722-HOPE

Hey Christine,  I have also like many others in this group suffer from dental problems. In the past five years or so I have had many root canals, and other dental surgeries, and after all of that had to have many of the teeth pulled. I don’t know exactly why this seems to happen to people with sd I think it may have something to do with stomach acid in your mouth not being real good for the teeth. I am suppose to be having bridges and partials put in but each time I go there is more problem teeth to be taken care of. Hope this makes you feel a little less alone. By the way your english is fine.               .                                  Janis

Hi Christine;  Yeah, there are times when symptoms go away for a while. It is really nice when they do, it gives us a bit of relief.  One of my original symptoms cleared up for several years, then came back very slightly.  My fingers are crossed that your disappearing symptoms stay away for ever.  Hug from Susan – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text -Christine Kibler wrote: > Hey! > Thank you all for the messages. Hi Christine: I have practically lived in the dentist the past two years. I have had four root canals and then the tooth under one of the crowns that had a root canal decayed and I just had to have it pulled. I don’t know if it is the scleroderma or the medicines but it hasn’t been easy. Hope things get better for you……..Gigi << From: Christine Kibler  >> << I’m from Germany and I’m suffering of sclerodermia for 2 years. Has anybody heard of you of dental problems? ow about having your own waiting room.  After all, we spend so much time in waiting rooms, it would be nice to have your own, lazy boy, new magazines, flowers, etc. Actuallly, if the dentist weren’t around, a dentists chair is quite comfortable and very adjustable. Nancy
