Gerry I believe Mj can be taken orally (ie…brownies) as well as smoking it. I of course heard this from someone else and am not speaking from past personal exp. <grin> Greg ——————-==== Posted via Deja News ====———————– http://www.dejanews.com/ Search, Read, Post to Usenet

There is a huge thread on this subject in alt.support.arthritis. I personally think it’s going to be like any drug – it’ll work for some and not for others. There are other countries where mj is legal – are they using it for pain relief? Have they any conclusive studies? — Amie

Hello Gerry, First, do you have SD? The reason I ask is when I had no appetite many of my friends offered mj to stimulate my appetite. I asked my doctors about smoking it and they said NO WAY it can kill you. You see I have lung involvement and mj would only make it worst. I think you should ask this to the professionals involved with SD. Is anyone familiar with any studies of the use of marijuana for treatment of the recurrent pain of Scleroderma (or other chronic diseases)? I am not referring to daily use of the drug but, rather, weekly or semi-weekly, as necessary, as a substitute for prescription pain killers. I am aware of the usual assertions and apprehension of the general public, viz., marijuana is an evil drug which leads hard drug addiction; marijuana is illegal most everywhere and there is risk of criminal prosecution; risk of job loss by reason of random drug testing in the work place; alleged impairment of faculties, proficiency and function; rapaciously vigorous opposition to legalization by the pharmaceutical industry, etc. I am talking about a responsible adult utilizing this drug with the same prudence and premeditation exercised with the current prescribed medication … substituting one drug for another. I am aware of the exposure one has during the period of extended euphoria that one may overreach the physical limitations imposed by SD and incur subsequent tissue damage. I am searching for information on any potential beneficial effects as well as the possible side effects to lungs, brain cells, heart, longevity, long term immunity to the drug, long term torpidity or lethargy, etc. and any help would be gratefully appreciated With the passage of legislation in California, legalizing the medical use of marijuana, I did not hear any significant medical testimony, pro or con, on the subject. I suspect that with the limited funding for medical research and the lack of a profitable exploitation potential for marijuana and the general puritanical and antagonistic repudiation of marijuana, there is more apathy than enthusiasm … except from the potential beneficiary. Although one must and can learn to manage the pain which accompanies SD, gaining newborn inner strength, while hoping and praying for an eventual cure, there is need for occasional relief so one can enjoy a fleeting reprieve to normalcy .
