Ed, Thank you for your response. I was hoping that I could talk to some one who actually use photopheresis, and improved. So far, I have only found one person. Where do you get the plasmapheresis? Linda

Linda, Below is a brief extract from my scleroderma FAQ located at:         http://www.synnovation.com/sclerodermafaq.html  - A treatment known as photopheresis (also called photochemotherapy)    is under investigation for people with Scleroderma.  During this    procedure, blood in removed from the body (as in dialysis) and    certain blood cells (monocytes) are "washed" with a drug (8-    methoxypsoralen).  The blood is then exposed to ultraviolet light    (type A).  It is hoped that this treatment might suppress collagen    production and increase the levels of an enzyme that breaks down    collagen (collagenase).  Several studies have reported positive    preliminary results but well controlled studies are still lacking. Results have been mixed on this treatment approach.  For example, one diffuse patient locally has been receiving photopheresis for about a year.  Initially, she showed noticable improvement, but recently she has returned to where she was before treatment.  This treatment method is also very expense and is rarely covered by insurance.  Bottom line – individual results vary.  Hope this helps.                         Ed On 3 Apr 1999 01:03:50 GMT, linda…@aol.com (LindaRTC) wrote: – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text ->Has anyone tried photopheresis?
