It is hard for us to say. What I would suggest is for your friend to seek out the opinion from a rheumatologist. The swollen, shiny, tight skin you describe is often what those with scleroderma suffer with. I urge her to have it looked at by a specialist. Tell your friend she can email me anytime. Keep us posted. I hope she visits the specialist and finds out that it is true that it is not scleroderma.
