AC, I don’t have any experience with implants so…Mmmm … an observation if it were me? Nix the plastic, I wouldn’t want that in *me*; make sure the cow had its shots; investigate the plug-from-hip theory and try to ascertain how much stress the procedure will cause you and how long the result will last. I like the idea of using our own bone to pack an empty hole and anchor a likeness of a toof gone bye bye. Do they take a bone ‘punch’? Interesting topic… –Jaimes

Go to http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/PubMed/, and at the Medline Search type in dental scleroderma. I clicked on the "more like this" for "Patel, K, et al." and got a big list. Some don’t have summaries, and it looked like many were not in English, but maybe your doc has access to some of these articles. Medline also has complete instructions for ordering, but I’ve never done it so I don’t know how expensive it is. – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text -AC900434 wrote in message <71e0ao$…@journal.concentric.net>… >HELP! HELP! Anyone out there had a dental implant? Anyone out there with an opinion on the topic? My dentist is recommending an implant (to replace an extracted tooth) and something called a "sinus lift." The sinus lift means they build up the bone beneath the sinus by introducing a plug of bone into the gum which is either plastic, bovine, or a plug taken from patient’s own hip. This sounds like something the busy little immune system of a CRESTie such as myself would NOT like, but I would appreciate ANY input, positive or negative, on the topic. — AC Both what you run away from —and yearn for— —is within you—- Anthony de Mello SJ

I just wanted to offer a HUGE thanks to all who took the time to respond to this topic. There were a number of informative responses, (some quite lengthy) which I read very carefully. I learned SO much from all your input. . . plus found a lot of info from the Pub Medline stuff (thanks, Amie).

In the last two years I have had lots of Dental work done. Some of which included root canal with posts put in to hold the teeth firmly in place. Let me tell you it is no easy thing when your mouth is small and doesn’t stretch. This is not a scare you post but if you are going to have it done be prepared for a lot of pain afterwards.I still am not finished. I am holding off on another root canal until I get my nerve back up. good luck…….Gigi
