Question:
Amie, Love your RETCH acronym!!! Ronni
Response:
<< If they just called it hard skin it would be CREHT! Who would want to have CREHT! >> Since 80% of us have Raynaud’s, maybe they could rearrange it to RETCH. That would also go well with the fact that we all have stomach/esophageal problems. Sorry, being a Scrabble player, I couldn’t resist. Response:
Calcinosis and Sclerodactyly are the "C" and "S" of CREST. Sclerodactyly is just hard fingers. It just means your skin is tight on the fingers, so they feel hard. We pretty much all have it and don’t think of it as Sclerodactyly (sounds like a flying dinaosuar with an autoimmune disease). On my hands, I can’t pinch the skin on my fingers. That’s all it is. I think they use this word to make a nice letter in the acronym CREST. If they just called it hard skin it would be CREHT! Who would want to have CREHT! Calcinosis a hard calcium deposit usually over a joint. These can turn into sores and get infected. Sometimes they are removed surgically. Only people with CREST get these. I don’t have CREST, so maybe someone with CREST can tell more about what they look like. I know for many pople with CREST, this is a very painful, difficult problem. Like many people with diffuse, I get sores over joints, but there is no calcium in them, it’s not the same thing. Hope this helps.
