Scleroderma Information » Scleroderma » Scleroderma friendly ways to control insects???
Question:
All this talk about bugs reminds me of a question I have about insecticide and scleroderma. What do the rest of you do (esp. those of you in the South?) Ladybugs are cute and useful, so no likes to spray them, but in my part of the world we have a type of ant that is really hard to get rid of (Argentine ants). They are distinct from other types of ants because they live in walls and have literally hundreds of queens. (So ant traps don’t work). They can survive mild frosts. They eat almost everything, including firewood, soap, toothpaste and mouthwash, so everything must be wrapped and sealed tightly. They are also stinky, (smell like rotten wood), so it has been really difficult to develop a positive relationship with them. We had our house bug bombed twice, but they came back each time. I think I read somewhere that insecticides and scleroderma don’t mix. Any suggestions? (Other than MOVE FAR AWAY AND FAST???) (I’ve thought of that, plus wondered if I could smuggle an anteater into the US, but . . .) — AC Both what you run away from —and yearn for— —is within you—- Anthony de Mello SJ

I gave up on nighties and seams. Nothing is better and does not bunch or twist. How ’bout panties? Interesting where the seams are located. I turn my inside out for comfort. Gheese……how to make a gal’s life miserable. Wendy

Thanks, Wendy. I am at my wits’ end with these ants, and the usual methods of ant traps, stakes, fastidious cleaning are just not working. Too many queens. YUCK! Hate to expose my busy immune system to all those chemicals, but as Hyacinth would say, "This is not at all conducive to the gentile quality of my candlelight suppers." LOL…….I love Hyacinth. She is related to the Queen, you know. Back to the bug situation. Many bugs carry bacteria and germs and are darn right nasty. I am concerned about the chemicals, but hey…the pollution in the air is harmful and the sprays used on cotton and farm crops are worse. All the sprays drift in the air and land other places. Also, many insects are poisonous. Give me my Sears bug man and my Roto Reuter man and I am happy as a clam. (I live in an old house whose pipes are belching every now and then). I believe in preventative treatments for anything that gets in my way. Good luck with your bugs. (Boric acid can be used behind counters, and outdoors away from animals. Do not put it on top of the ant hill. Follow the activity and put up a barrier around the ant hill and also the path of the ants here and there. Wendy

Has anyone tried the Aveeno Lotion? I found a sample in the bathroom closet and used it after a bath, does feel better. It has calamine in it and oatmeal. (Don’t ask how they make a lotion with oatmeal in it and not have it be lumpy??) Anyway, it had a coupon along with the sample and I was considering buying the lotion til I checked the date on the coupon….1993!!?? Holy Cow! Maybe I should get to that closet more often!! The darned sample’s exp. date was 1992!! Does Aveeno even make it anymore? Jo NJ…bowing her head in shame at the condition of her closets…:-)))))

AC, Living in Phoenix, we have bold roaches of the big kind and circkets that are in your face, in hte walls. You need to put a barrier around your house and in between your walls. My sister lives in Fld. and started using Sears pest control after trying every other one. I finally did also because I was getting big furry spiders, and the other bugs. They are expensive the first visit but…they opened every electrical outlet, light switch, and in the baths, drilled tiny holes under the sinks and placed bait in all the walls. Even the inside walls. If I see one bug, I call them and the come back and redo. Outside is redone also. They use pellets that dissolve in the ground. I have 3 dogs and was worried about then ingesting. Didn’t happen. I’m on my 3rd yr and would have none other . My house is very bug free except for the occasional fly. Wendy
