VCR ALERT!! Our very own star of the computer screen — Karen Van Horne — will be the star of the television screen next Friday, Oct. 22nd! She will be interviewed, along with her brother Jason Alexander, by none other than BARBARA WALTERS! Karen and Jason’s live interview will be on "The View," ABC-TV’s highly rated daytime talk show. Barbara Walters will interview Jason alone, then bring Karen on to join him in a discussion about scleroderma. We all owe a debt of appreciation to Karen and Jason Alexander for agreeing to work with us on this very important project. Many of you will recall that Jason and Karen were featured in "People" magazine (twice) and have appeared on numerous TV and radio broadcasts. Karen is one of the best ambassadors of public awareness for scleroderma we have. She co-hosts AOL’s Monday night chats, serves on the Board of Directors of the Scleroderma Foundation, and is an active and productive member of the SF’s Bluebonnet Chapter in Houston (who has a large share of other wonderfully productive members). Despite her own health troubles, she is remarkably generous to others, always holding out a helping hand (with a wonderful sense of humor). The Scleroderma Foundation has been putting forth an unprecedented effort these past few months to generate national publicity. Soon, we hope to bring you even more exciting news on the publicity front. Publicity ties all parts of our mission together — education, support and research. Publicity will educate the public to understand this disease, and what we as scleroderma sufferers must endure. Consequently, ignorance will turn to compassion and support. In addition, publicity paves the way for far more effective fundraising efforts. People don’t support causes with which they are unfamiliar. When people on a large scale finally know about scleroderma, they’ll be far more inclined to contribute to research, and to give generously. All of this, of course, leads to the CURE! It is an honor for anyone to be interviewed by Barbara Walters so this is indeed an honor for all of us who have scleroderma. Thank you Ronni for bringing this to our attention. I also would like to thank Karen and Jason for agreeing to put your life in the public eye. I have programmed my VCR so I won’t miss this. Smiles
