Question:
I have a nifty thing for when you’re just sitting around, watching the tube or just using your hands off and on. It’s like an electric heating pad but it’s a muff, and it has a special material in it that puts out moist heat without water. I think it was intended for relief for OA in the hands, but I think it’s a great winter therapy for me. I’ve never had the parrafin bath, but I don’t have to mix and melt this, and it is warm and moist. — Amie ——– I Have Scleroderma http://members.tripod.com/~ayaussy/

Re: paraffin baths…Our local rhuemy suggested using latex gloves when using bath, especially when having ulcers. When done, just peel off gloves, much easier than peeling pariffin off hands. Gloves also protect from bacteria that may be in wax, especially if other family members like to try it as well. Dee Dee Hunt Living With Hope

I use the parrafin bath when I don’t have ulcers. I have my hubby wrap them in aluminum foil after I dip them. This keeps the heat inside the foil and it radiates deeper into my hands. It makes the good warm feeling last much longer. — Love and Hugs From Sherry Messick Surviving Scleroderma http://www.SclerodermaSupport.com "We are all Beacons Of Light for Each Other " Oprah Winfrey Tomorrow is promised to no one. Amie That sounds great. Let us know where you got it. If you haven’t tried the parrafin bath you really need to treat yourself. It feels soooooooo good. It isn’t expensive either. I bought a cheap crock pot and mixed parrafin and mineral oil (4 parts wax and 1 part mineral oil) and put it into the pot. I also got a candy thermometer to make sure it didn’t get too hot. I let it get between 120 and 125 degrees. Then all you have to do is dip your hands 6 to 12 times and wrap them in plastic bags and towels. I can’t emphasize how gooooood it feels. You owe it to yourself to try it. Your Friend….Greg S ———–== Posted via Deja News, The Discussion Network ==———- http://www.dejanews.com/ Search, Read, Discuss, or Start Your Own

I have a "home" recipe for a paraffin bath that was given to me many years ago by the PT department at the hospital. If anyone is interested, let me know. It is much less expensive and just as effective as the commercial ones. When my osteoarthritis in my hands is acting up, I use it at least twice a day. Terri
