Scleroderma Information » Scleroderma » What CREST is

Question:

Someone reported having tested positive for CREST the other day.  So I wanted to know what it was.  Here goes. C – Calcinosis – calcium deposits under the skin of the arms, feet, fingertips, and elbows* R – Raynaud’s Phenomenon – arteries in fingers and toes constrict when exposed to cold* E – Esophagial Spasm – the muscles in the esophagus spasm making swallowing difficult* S – Sclerodactyly – the skin on the fingers gets tight and hard* T – Telangiesctasia – small clusters of blood vessels that resemble star patterns* There you have it.  Now if you were wondering like I was, you don’t need to wonder anymore. :) Daddio

CREST is part of the scleroderma family. I only know this because I am undergoing testing for it at the present time – remember all of my "update on my foot" postings. I had the skin, fascia and muscle biopsy yesterday and see the doc next Monday for results. Terri "Growing old is inevitable, growing up is optional"
